The 14 rainforest chalets are positioned privately and set among the constant whistle of native birds and trickling of cascading mountain streams.
Tucked away in the World Heritage Listed Springbrook National Park, The Mouses House would have to
be one of the Gold Coast’s (if not Australia’s) most unique accommodation offerings.
Not only does this rainforest retreat promise interstate travellers or daytrippers a luxurious stay, the
team behind the venture also embraces a philosophy that pushes each of them to achieve sustainability
through a number of micro-initiatives that benefit the planet every day.

The setting and surrounds
This remote retreat offers the perfect getaway from the constant mousewheel of everyday life and allows guests to exhale. Positioned within 400 metres of the hinterland’s magnificent four-kilometre ‘Twin Falls’ Rainforest walk and providing breathtaking views and nature all around – waterfalls, lookouts, and walks.
Each of the fairy-tale themed chalets were named after Snow White and her dwarves, Sleeping Beauty and their much-loved fellow characters, and sit 30 to 40 metres from each of its neighbours, providing guests that sense of being at one with nature.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, mountain bikes are available for onsite guests to use. There’s also a half-sized tennis court for a hit around, and if relaxation is on the cards, private masseuses are on-call as required.

What to expect
Each of the 14 timber chalet boasts a fully-operational kitchen along with reverse-cycle air-conditioning, a wood fire, combined living and dining areas, a private terrace with barbecue set-up and all the mod cons including Wi-Fi, a PS3, and an iPad.
Each has its own two-person triangle spa bath with a window that provides views out into the luscious rainforest beyond.
From an eco-tourism viewpoint, the retreat is certified and the property boasts government certified pristine spring water for drinking and bathing throughout the resort.

Eco approach
Nurturing nature is a big part of the role any business that operates within a national park has. The Mouses House team does its best to preserve its surroundings while also ensuring it manages to reduce its impace on the environment.
As such, the rainforest retreat utilises water/energy efficient shower heads, dual flushing toilets and wherever possible each of the chalets boast energy saving equipment, as well as roof, floor and wall insulation. Amenities are green friendly and guests are reminded by way of educational stickers and other means about the importance of using electricity effectively.
Further to this, guests are provided with recycled waste containers, all recyclable materials are sent to the council’s waste transfer station, and there’s a water treatment plant that repurposes all waste water.
As quiet as a mouse
Well, not quite, but the good news is that the only sounds to be heard at The Mouses House are those of nocturnal animals, including the retreat’s friendly yet opportunistic possums that visit regularly for a feed, the local brush turkey population, and of course, the whistling birds and scurrying natives.
